December 2020

After 12 years of being Abandoned, Woods Mill is being revived and coming back to Addington, Christchurch in late 2017. With unique one of a kind office spaces, Apartments, a Theatre, Cafe's and Markets. Wood's Mill is Coming backing with a bang, all while keeping true the buildings history.

Phase 1 - December 2020

In Phase One, the brick Mill building will be strengthened and restored providing four floors and a mezzanine of large light filled loft spaces of approx. 238m2 unit titles. These spaces are mainly an office use with restoration of the façade and retention of many of the “industrial” features on the inside.

Office space will be simple spaces with the building elements left exposed.  The opportunity to purchase small to medium size unit titled commercial space is unique in Christchurch and provides an attractive alternative to leasing at a comparable cost.

The new Central Core (Design Above) will be glass fronted and house the stairs, lifts and stacked bathrooms for each level. This core structure will be incorporated into the Grain building as well as the Mill building.

Phase 2 - August 2021

In Phase Two, the patina of the brick and timber, unique lofty spaces will attract hospitality and retail alongside the markets on the ground and first floors with offices above and a large shared innovation workspace on the second floor. An atrium will provide access through the centre of the building providing light and a central core. The Grain Store designed to withstand the pounding of a flour mill operation features decorative arches, massive Australian ironwood columns and 12 inch Oregon beams with will be retained and showcased in the restoration

Enhancing the experience will be a “Restaurant Core” with small boutique restaurants in the “food truck” style. These will service the offices, outside and be available for weekend markets as well as servicing the new multipurpose Theatre venue at the end of the building. Restaurants will be located on the ground and first floors of the grain store access via the central atrium and are reminiscent of Ponsonby Central in Auckland.

A market will operate seven days a week from morning through to evening offering a variety of themes including morning food markets to night noodle markets in and around the Grain Store. The Theatre venue will provide a space which will be complimentary to the market space.

A theatre will operate as a multipurpose venue which can operate seven days a week from morning through to evening and will work with the food markets in and around the Grain Store. The space can be used for theatre, movie, comedy shows, small concert venue and should house 250-350 depending on configuration. The square and courtyards on either side of the theatre will tie this space to the food court in the Grain building and also provide for additional space under the stars. With this space the opportunity is there for use by schools and community groups for putting on weekend day productions. The flexibility of the space and its proximity to other venues in the Addington area will provide the catalyst to facilitate more use in and around this area.
